I have bruises, cuts, scrapes and sprains. I have scars, callouses, aching muscles, back pain and sore feet. I have a headache, my mind is weary and my temper is short a lot of the time. Yeah, work is hell sometimes, but I do it anyway. I do it when I'm sick, I do it when I'm in pain, I do it even when I'd rather be doing anything else but. I've called in sick to a job once in 7 years. ...why C? Why do you beat the hell out of yourself? Why? Are you ready for this? Because NOBODY OWES ME A DAMN THING! No one! Now listen up! This is for the sniveling entitlement seekers. This is for the self-proclaimed victims who seem to think that they deserve something for nothing. I'm speaking to you, the capable but lazy. The intelligent but uninspired. The able but unwilling. I'm speaking to those who refuse to accept responsibility for your own shortcomings. Those of you who will point a finger at everyone but yourselves for your failures... ...I don't owe you a damn thing either! You are not entitled to anything I or anyone else earns. You are entitled to nothing. Period. Still you ask, "but why? Is it worth it?" My answer is simply yes, it's worth it. It's worth it because I have a home to rest my tired body in. It's worth it because my kids are fed. It's well worth it to be able to provide for those I love. I'm reminded that no matter how hard I work, or how much of myself I give to provide for my family, it's still never even remotely close to what our soldiers and their families have gone through to assure me this freedom, this luxury, this privilege of being able to live and work freely. This freedom to pursue what happiness is to me. The freedom to live life as I choose. It's my responsibility as someone fortunate enough to have been born into liberty to make the best use of the freedom so many have sacrificed themselves for. That's right, I said "responsibility". Every one of us is responsible to those who have fallen in the name of freedom. It's our responsibility to to get off our butts and use that freedom for all it's worth. You're free to become successful at whatever success is to you. You're also free to fail. You're free to say what you like, and even if I don't like what you say, I'll fight for your right to say it. You're free to worship God any way you choose. You're free not to as well. Your freedom means a lot of things, but entitlement is not one of them. This Memorial Day weekend, I say a prayer to God. I thank Him for my freedom. I thank Him for those who have fallen in the name of this freedom. I promise to continue fighting for this freedom and to stand up to the evil that is socialism with everything I've got. With reverence for our fallen heroes, have a nice Memorial Day and remember why it's here.
